NCLTL
BULLETIN 0107 FOR JANUARY 23, 2007
REGISTER
FOR NCLTL WINTER MEETING
The NCLTL Winter Meeting will be held
Friday March 2, 2007
at the
Holiday
Inn
Airport
, Charlotte NC. The meeting will begin with a reception at
10:30 AM followed by a great lunch, guest speakers and will
also include a tour of the Freightliner facility in Mt.
Holly NC. Our program
will feature the following highly regarded and informed
speakers: Reid
Thompson, Sr. Director of International Logistics-Soletron
Inc. will have some very useful information on “Best
Practices for Managing the Global Inbound Supply Chain”.
Reid has stated that with many
US
companies having to deal with foreign suppliers, managing
the inbound supply chain has increased in complexity as well
as cost. Companies
that have traditionally purchased goods delivered to their
door are re-thinking this policy.
His presentation will justify some of the reasons for
taking control of the inbound process and describe some
“best practices” to consider.
Howard Lukens-Detroit Diesel will update “New
Engine EPA requirements for 2007, changes for EPA 2010 and
projected impact in regard to fuel economy, types of fuel
and cost”. These
changes and requirements will result in much higher costs
for carriers and will no doubt have a significant impact on
shipping costs. Mike
McCurry, Plant Manager-Freightliner Trucks will offer his
presentation on “The Daimler Chrysler Production System,
Quality Metrics and JIT Initiatives,” prior to the tour.
The Mt Holly Assembly Plant will provide a
presentation on the production system known as the Daimler
Chrysler Productions System or DCPS.
The Freightliner plants began implementing this
system in 2004 and have seen very significant results in
regards to safety, quality, cost and production.
The system centers on customer focus, employee
involvement and LEAN manufacturing.
The individual tools that make up the production
system are applicable to any type of business.
The League is grateful to Mike for allowing us the
tour of this fine facility. The
tour will follow the educational presentations and will
depart from the Holiday Inn to the Freightliner facility
immediately. The cost
of the meeting (payable in advance) is $35.00 for members
and $40.00 for non-members. Please
complete the enclosed form and return via fax or mail to the
League office at your earliest convenience.

Inn to Freightliner, please check the box on the
